Day 198

Today was shopping day, along with bill paying day. I got up, deleted the trash email, went outside to stand in the sun for a few minutes, and then I came back in to check my bank balance. My deposit from the other bank was in, along with some PayPal deposits as well, giving me a little extra. I went to Verizon and paid my part of the phone bill, and then I went to my car insurance and paid that. Then I reviewed my grocery list. There were a few things missing from it, and a few extras added to it, so after a few minor changes that was ready to go to. My first stop was Petsmart for dog food. Every time I buy it I am amazed at how much they freaking eat, and we’ve started feeding Sashi even more because she’s a little thinner than I’d like her to be. Ugh. We already spend $50 on dog food every 3 weeks. I don’t want to think about having to spend more, and I’m not going to start feeding them a lower quality dog food either.

Then I went to WalMart. I got everything I had on my list and needed, plus yogurt, which I hadn’t put on my list and we eat a lot of. I also grabbed some “light” bologna as I wanted sandwiches and it was pretty cheap. Doesn’t taste as good as some others but its not bad either. Then I made my way to the checkout. I spent $42.49 total.

Here’s what I got for my dollars:

  • Refried Beans (1)
  • Spanish Rice (1)
  • Bacon (1)
  • Stewed Tomatoes (1)
  • Chicken Broth (1)
  • Tomato Sauce (1)
  • Pizza Dough (1)
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese (1)
  • Chicken Breasts (3 lbs)
  • Banquet Meals (5 – Mattie’s work lunches)
  • Ziplock Quart Freezer Bags (24 count)
  • Sliced Cheese (1)
  • Ice Cream Sandwiches (12 count)
  • Bologna (1)
  • Yogurt (8)
  • Broccoli (1.5 lbs)
  • Beef Broth (1)

It wasn’t my best haul and I could have gotten the yogurt $0.06 per container cheaper at Food4Less, but I didn’t feel like going to another store with ice cream in the trunk just to save $0.48 cents. Not really worth it. The week’s menu should be covered with what I bought today, and I moved the new recipe we didn’t try last week done to this week and kind of re-arranged some other stuff. This is this week’s menu. I meant to post this yesterday but I forgot.

I’ve got a big bowl of English peas in their pods that I’ll fix tonight with the chicken sandwiches. I need to use them before they die on me. I’m also really hoping this week sticks to plan because we’ll only eating “just add meat + water” food as a main dish twice this week. The pizza dough is for next Monday- we’re doing calzones. The broccoli beef pasta, and the Southern style chicken & greens are both new recipes.

Do not believe the internet when it tells you shelling English peas is as easy as just unzipping them. Its a lie! They don't just fall out after you "unzip" the pods.

Dinner tonight was sloppy joes and peas. I had to use the peas before they went all crappy on me, so figured tonight was as good as any day. We also decided to defrost the little fridge last night, and it took all night to get the ice chunk down small enough to remove it from the freezer part. And until the little fridge cools down again, everything is stuffed in the big fridge and I can’t find a damn thing in there. Hopefully it’ll be back to normal tomorrow.

Before I forget, here’s today’s eats.

I also managed to cross off 4 out of 5 of my goals for this month. I did 25 consecutive sit-ups, my measurements would let me wear a Torrid size 1 now, I fit a men’s size large t-shirt, and I lost a total of 25 pounds. I wasn’t sure I was going to get the sit-ups one done, but I had to give it  try. It was tough, but I did it with Mattie standing on my feet and Sashi walking over me and banging her thick skull into mine several times.

The only one I didn’t make I was only a half an inch short of, so that’s not so bad really.

Tomorrow is produce day, and I had to throw out quite a bit of stuff from last week because with us basically not eating here three nights last week, we just didn’t use it all. Not happy about that but what can I do?  :-/

I also finished reading Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, which was better than I thought it would be. Some of the reviews said it was a sexy read, but oddly enough, as the book is about being a sex worker, it wasn’t sexy at all. It was worth reading though, and now I’ve moved on to my next book- New Cthulhu: The Recent Weird, which is a selection of stories about the elder god himself.

I’ve talked your ear off way longer than I meant to, so signing off for the night. Tomorrow is a new month, and I’m going to make it a better month than this one was.
