FMM – Cooking Habits

Its Monday again, which means its friend making Monday! If you’re not sure how it works, simply copy the questions to your own blog, then head over to Kenlie’s blog and post the link to your answers. Then make some new friends!

FMM: Cooking Habits

1. What is your favorite meal to prepare at home?  Anything I can kind of throw in a skillet or pot or in the oven and just walk away from for a while is good. I like easy.

2. Do you like to experiment in the kitchen, or do you prefer to stick to the basics? I tend to experiment a little, especially if I am using a recipe. I never do exactly what it says and I tend to substitute things without even blinking.

3. What is your favorite cookbook? 100 Best Chicken Recipes and 100 Best Hamburger (Digest Comb-Bound Cookbooks) are two I am loving right now. The recipes we’ve tried are quick, easy, and good! And they don’t use any fancy stuff we might not have or be able to find. Cheap eats too!

4. Do you have any tricks to share that help you reach your fruits and veggies goal for the day? Nope. I suck at this one. Some days I don’t even eat any fruits or veggies. :(

5. What’s the most interesting thing you made last week? I didn’t really cook last week- we ended up going out a couple of times and then grilling steaks at home another night. Oh wait! I made chicken & pasta primavera. That was freaking delicious!

6. How often do you watch cooking shows on TV? Never. I hardly watch TV at all.

7. When you’re hungry, where are you most likely to look first? Um… the freezer. Then the pantry. Our fridge tends to be kind of bare most of the time.

8. List a few healthy staples that can always be found in your kitchen. We’ve almost always got an assortment of veggies and fruit because of the weekly produce delivery we’re signed up for. Right now I’ve got some pretty English peas waiting to be eaten.

9. Are you motivated to cook at home even when you’re eating alone? Nope. The most effort I’ll put in when its just me is Kraft mac n cheese. I hate cooking just for me.

10.  How often do you try new recipes? Right now I am shooting to try two new recipes a week. I’ll probably actually only end up doing about 6 a month, but still have to have goals, right?

Came by from FMM. I didn’t specify on my response, but when I said I’ll occasionally make mac and cheese if I’m alone, that’s exactly what I meant — boxed mix (Kraft or something else), but not much more when I’m solo!

I eat so much healthier when I am cooking for other people! We (almost) always have a big serving of veggies, along with a carb and a protein. But alone? I’m awful! LOL

I’m a big fan of doing skillet dinners. My version of stir-fry, I guess. It’s so easy to just saute a bunch of veggies and a protein and have dinner. I love the ease of one pot meals.

*nods* I tend to hover over whatever I’m cooking because I always worry I’ll burn it, so things I can throw together and go sit down for ten minutes are great. I need to explore using our crockpot more too.

Found you over at AllTheWeigh’s FMM. I was initially coming over to check out your cooking survey for the day, but now Im motivated to lose weight again from your awesome background & posts!

Just wanted to say hi and make a new blogging friend :) Dont be a stranger and pass by if you can!

Thanks for stopping by and glad to be on inspiration! Its funny when I was making my background I was just kind of randomly throwing stuff together, until I realized what I was doing was working well together. :) Either way, I love how my graphics turned out. The numbers remind me of my starting point, and some steps along the way I’ll meet.

my go to of quesadillas is your one pot dish. I just throw a bunch of complementary crap into a pan under a tortilla and enjoy.

I throw some kale in there, though, because why not?

Mmmm! Quesadillas! I haven;t had one in forever- maybe breakfast tomorrow? LOL

I tend to throw things together in a skillet with eggs or when it’s just me. My family is so picky they can’t have their foods touching each other…drives me insane! So I actually like cooking for ME or other people cause I know they’ll eat.

LOL I used to be like that, and I had to eat one thing at a time, I couldn’t move on to the next food on my plate until that was gone. Now I’ll almost anything and my bf is the picky one!

Mushrooms, bell peppers, sausage, and a little cheese with my eggs is my favorite!

Thanks so much Deb for the tips on how to get veggies into my diet! Can’t wait to try sneaking veggies in somehow!! Now, what are your tips for getting me to eat SALAD? :) :)

    1. Deb (Post author)

That’s a tougher one. Obviously you don’t want to make the salad an excuse to eat a ton of dressing, but maybe try other add-ins, like meat, or cheese, something you really like? I personally love avocado and chicken on my salads.
