Sorry, I forgot to post this last night! Today’s post will follow shortly.
Today we got up early (7am) and headed out to meet up with friends to go to the Toys for Tots charity drive in Gorman at a campground with a 4×4 “training ground.” I got up, had a thing of yogurt, and a big cup of coffee, then we were off. We got to where we were supposed to meet up, and Mattie said “Hey! Let’s get Starbucks!” I had just downed a huge cup of coffee, which I later learned he was unaware of, but who doesn’t love more coffee, so I said “Sure!” and in we went. I ordered the Salted Caramel Mocha, which was amazingly good. I also ordered the venti, because I’m greedy like that. It was like drinking hot buttered popcorn lightly tossed in chocolate. So good, but upon getting home and looking it up, it was also quite the calorie bomb. Ouch!
After we got out coffee, the other people showed up and we headed out. The drive took a little over an hour to get there, but there were some entertaining moments during the day. We were also expecting cold weather, but it turned out to be really pretty warm- warm enough that even though I left the house in a hoodie, hat, and scarf, by 10am I wasn’t even wearing the hoodie and was a little too warm in my long-sleeved shirt.
Not long after we got there, guys started trying to run their trucks up the boulders and hills. Here’s a shot of the hill and its varying difficulties from further back.
This guy had some trouble getting up the hill, but he did make it there successfully. I heard afterwards it was actually pretty epic the way he did it. I wasn’t paying that much attention though, and didn’t really see it, nor do I know anything about this stuff.
Here’s another shot from the top of the hill- this guy was actually really fun to watch get up it.
Everywhere people were taking pictures and shooting video. It was pretty much a huge my-balls-are-bigger-than-yours contest on the hillside that went on for most of the afternoon. O.o
The actual toy drive was crazy with how many toys were collected. One guy got his friends together and brought in 150 toys! This photo is only about half of what was brought in. Sorry the photos are so crappy- I took this with my phone and its photos are so-so in the best conditions. They’re downright awful if I’m facing into the sun.
Lunch was a hot dog and a small bag of chips, as well as either a can of soda or a tiny bottle of water. I chose the water since I had suspicions my Starbucks coffee from that morning was a calorie bomb, and while it tasted okay, it wasn’t filling at all and I was hungry pretty much all day.
We finally left a little before 4pm, and headed for home. Once we got here, I started dinner immediately. It wasn’t an impressive dinner, but it was colorful. I reheated the leftover mac n cheese with hotdogs from Thursday night, and added freshly cooked spinach and beets from our product box.
It tasted pretty good too, especially the veggies. The downside is since dinner was mostly veggies, I was still feeling hungry, and I was already way over my calorie limit for the day by about 300 calories. I ended up boiling three eggs. The calories form those were about the same as if I had had a burrito or a bowl of ice cream- I figured the eggs were the healthiest of the three and rightly so.
Here’s Saturday’s food diary.

I didn’t log any exercise for the day, but I know I walked at least a mile during the day, most of it up and down the very steep hills. The bathroom was also about 1/4th mile away from where we were in the campground, and I made a few trips over to it as well.
All in all, even with the terrible eating, it was a good day. We came home tired, but we had fun. It wasn’t something I would have picked to do, but I did enjoy most of it and would probably do it all again too.
Here’s the weekly wrap-up.
See you all tomorrow!
