Sunday Day 422 Food Diary

I should be posting my weekly weigh and measure, but I had to be up super early this morning and out of the house and in the next town over by 730am, so I didn’t even step on the scale, let alone measure anything. I’ll try to get to that tomorrow morning. The day did start off well enough but it quickly progressed to absolute crap. There were a few highlights, which made it somewhat tolerable, but overall the morning and afternoon just plain sucked. Okay, I’ll start at the beginning.

630am. Alarm goes off. I get up, get dressed, and scarf some yogurt. I go in to snuggle Mattie for five more minutes when he reminds me it doesn’t take more than ten minutes to get where I’m going. I snuggle for almost half an hour.

730am. I arrive at the event location. Tracy & David are already there. Apparently the organizer has already chastised her about how unprofessional we are for choosing not to use a pop-up tent. The weather forecast was for 60mpg gusts of wind- yeah, try taking a tent down in that. Besides, all a tent really does is protect you from sun. Its December. We want to sit in the sun. Its not 110° in August. We proceed to get everything set up, covering our tables, arranging our products, and getting ready for the start of the event. Everything looks really nice. Behind us are two girls who had a variety of crocheted or knitted items and some other stuff. To our left was a man selling his wife’s wonderful salsa. We sampled plenty of it over the course of the day.

900am. The event starts. For the first few hours pretty much the only people there are vendors and their friends who stopped by. Tracy sells a necklace to the salsa guy. The event was supposedly advertised in the newspaper and on the radio. At that point the only shoppers were people who were coming to the restaurant whose parking lot we were in to eat anyway. We greeted everyone who came near with smiles and good mornings.

1000am. The people directly in front of us started unloading three more tables, putting up a tent, and unloading crates of merchandise. Set-up was clearly indicated to be from 630am to 830am. They continued setting up more stuff, and even moved their entire set-up to a different space until almost noon. Several times they spray some horrible perfumes that made us want to gag. It was so strong we could literally taste it. It was very unpleasant.

1200pm. We’ve now been sitting here for 3 hours of actual event time, and between us we have made exactly one sale. The only shoppers are still only people who have come to eat. At one point I saw two of the wreaths another vendor was selling leave with someone. The salsa guy was doing great, making plenty of sales and getting new business set up for later in the week. I believe he was the only vendor to do what could really be considered to be “well.”

250pm. We’re tired, and we’ve wasted our entire day. We start packing up. Someone (a friend of the organizer) walks over and basically threatens us with not being allowed to come back if we pack up early. At this point, I honestly don’t care. There’s also been a raffle going on throughout the day and oddly enough, only the organizer’s friend seems to be winning anything. Almost all the buying has been from one vendor to another, and when you buy something, you get a raffle ticket. No other vendors seemed to have won anything which seems a bit odd. I walk back to my car to carry some of my stuff out and load it up. The organizer comes over and informs Tracy due to our rude and unprofessional behavior, we are not to be allowed back at any future events.  We’re both mad, but at the same time, we were both thinking “Fuck them!” We finish packing up, say our goodbyes to our really wonderful neighbors, who were the high point of the day, and leave. The organizer also threatened to tell another organizer how horrible we were, because you know, people need to know. We were apparently that awful.

Needless to say, after two equally crappy events, we’ll be looking for more events in other circles. Saying I’m not impressed is an understatement. I don’t care if you personally hate one of the vendors in the event you are organizing and your personal feelings do not have a place in it. You are there to work with them in a professional manner and treat everyone fairly and equally. That did not happen today.

After I got home, I spent about ten minutes petting Sashi and getting doggie kisses all over. Then I put on my HRM, and grabbed my MP3 player. I walked down the street, and after I had walked about six minutes, alternated blocks with walking and jogging until I had covered 1.1 miles and was back home. It wasn’t much, but it did help me feel a bit better. I was still a little angry though, so got Mattie to help me out with some “adult exercise” and then started making dinner.

Dinner was a greasy mess of sweet potato fries, and chicken legs. I sprinkled the fries with Its a Dilly- a seasoning mix of dill weed, lemon and I’m not sure what else. They were so tasty, but all that grease made my stomach cramp something awful. Still, it tasted good and comfort food was just one more thing to add to my mix of how to pull my mind back to a better place. I had the shits twenty minutes later, but I really didn’t care. And even with the crappy eating, I still managed to keep my calories in check pretty well. I was only a little over where I wanted to be and after how rough today was, I’m pretty okay with that. Yes, I did some emotional eating. Yes, I did not make very healthy choices at dinner and I probably ate too many tortilla chips. But I’m only me, ad I’m not perfect. I make mistakes. I also make bad-ass, totally awesome jewelry and other stuff, so you should do some last minute Christmas shopping in my store! Help me make up for today’s waste by giving me some orders to ship out this week instead!

  • What a bummer. Sounds like it was poorly organized and they wanted to blame the vendors.

    6:30 am – cute!

Did you not wear your HRM for your adult exercises? hahahaha! I kid.

  • Deb

Yeah it was just a mess. The woman running it is talking about us now on a public forum- no names yet, but saying how rude and inconsiderate we were. O.o

    Snugles are good. :)

Haha! I keep meaning to one day just to see but I haven’t yet!
