Grocery Haul Monday Day 583

groceryhaulToday’s grocery haul was minimal, but I still feel like I did pretty good. My $30 got me 4 bags full of groceries, which is a lot better than some weeks have been. I managed to get everything I needed, plus a few extras, and still stayed under my budget. I also put $29 in my gas tank, so for once I have a full tank of gas in my car, which is nice because that almost never happens.

I’m thinking about driving out to my mom’s this week to pick up a few things- namely some clothes I made and that need to be remade, and some shoes I really want to be wearing now that I’ve lost enough weight to make heels bearable again. I’m still excited about that because its been so long since I’ve been able to wear heels for more than a few minutes at a time.

Anyway, here’s today’s grocery haul.

Meat $7.23

  • Chicken Breasts (7 breasts) $7.23

Dairy $6.84

  • Dairy Fresh cottage cheese (2 @ $2.18) $4.36
  • Yoplait Yogurt $0.50
  • Hy-Top grated Parmesan & Romano cheese $1.98

Miscellaneous $6.18

  • Ragu Alfredo Sauce $1.68
  • Nutrigrain cereal bars $4.50

Carbs $4.74

  • Barilla whole wheat medium shells (2 @ $0.98) $1.96
  • Krispix cereal $2.78

Fruits & Veggies $3.96

  • Bananas (2.54 lbs @ $0.52/lb) $1.32
  • Fuji Apples (2.69 lbs @ $0.98/lb) $2.64

Frozen Foods $2.00

  • Banquet meals (2 @ $1.00) $2.00

Total haul $30.95

Mattie didn’t really need anything in the way of lunches or yogurt as he used some free lunch tickets last week and was down in LA on Friday, so I only had to get 2 lunches and 1 yogurt instead of the normal five or six. That gave me a little extra to get some fruit with because lately I’ve been blowing through all the fruit we get in the box in 4 or 5 days- hardly enough to last me the week. Bananas were all riper than I prefer, but they won’t last long enough to get squishy anyway. Apples were cheap again, though Fujis aren’t my favorite variety- the next cheapest apples were at $1.28 a pound. Overall I’d say I had a successful shopping trip.

I spent most of the day today in and out of my craft room working on salvaging a dress I made and murdered about 4 years ago due to horribly bad cutting and even worse stitching. I cut and sewed a new bodice today, and ripped all the seams out on the skirt (which i had saved) and did the first half of the new French seams on it again. Tomorrow I should be able to finish it all up and hopefully have a wearable new dress.

Food today was so-so. I went into my weeklies the same as I did yesterday, but I feel like I ate better today just the same. It might just be because I got in a lot more fruits and veggies today. Those peas were delicious by the way! Freshly hulled (de-podded?) and cooked from our produce box last week means they weren’t mushy and icky like they are when they come form a can or frozen. They were still a little firm and a really pretty shade of green. Also, I love unzipping the pods and shaking the peas out! :silly:  Here’s today’s food diary.

What Points
Cottage Cheese (1 Cup) 6
Banana (1) 0
Chicken Alfredo 25
Peas w/Butter 5
Banana (1) 0
Skinny Cow Mint Ice Cream Sandwich 4
Food Totals 39

So, good shopping trip. Good time spent sewing. And okay eating. I can live with that. See you all tomorrow, hopefully with new dress pictures!

I was just going through my blog reader and noticed I wasn’t following your blog :( but i am now :)
You did a great job grocery shopping, do you want to go shopping for me? I am dreadful at getting things I don’t need!

Sarah, thanks for following! I am on such a tight budget most of the time that there’s no room to diverge from the list most of the time, but trust me, when I have a little extra, I’ve been known to buy some random stuff!
