Wednesday Day 564 Food Diary

I still feel pretty crappy today, but you’ll get a real post and not just my food diary. I’m tired, my head feels like its packed full of cotton batting, and my nose won’t stop running. The last thing I wanted to do today is anything at all, but I still managed to do a load of laundry, vacuum the house, make dinner, and make tea for Mattie. I also did my measurements and weight for this month, and I have a 4.2 pound loss for last month, and 2.5″ added up from here and there. I was really hoping to lose 5 pounds, but the last week was just bad. The scale was all over the place, despite eating decently.

I also finally talked to the woman in charge of our delivery route for AHO, and found out what happened and why we didn’t get our delivery. Basically, she took one half of this area, and the new guy they just hired took the other half- my half. It was still fuzzy what had happened this morning, but this afternoon she called me back and was able to explain everything. Apparently the new kid delivered our box to my mom’s house (my billing address) 30 minutes outside of town, so my mom got a box of veggies, and my raisins, all tucked neatly away in the ice chest outside her back door. When she called him to ask what happened, he asked her why they were delivering to a house so far out there, and that it took an hour to make that one delivery. That pretty much explained everything. I asked my mom to bring me my raisins tomorrow and she can keep whatever else. Part of me is laughing about this and part of me is wondering how the kid managed to not notice not going out there last week on his ride along. Doh! I do feel bad they are having to eat the cost, but it was a mistake on their part, not mine.

Grocery Haul Monday Day 562

groceryhaulI know I haven’t posted since Thursday, but I’m going to spare you 3 days of food diaries and whatnot. I went into my weeklies quite a bit last week, but I ended the week with 25 of them left. Saturday night we ended up driving out to Tracy & David’s to hang out with them, Emi, and Tre, and we had a dinner of brats and potato salad, and amazingly I kept things mostly in control. I had 2 brats on buns, and a cup of potato salad, and 2 glasses of red wine. I didn’t bother to weigh in on Sunday because I knew the scale would be up and I didn’t want to see it. Anyway, we had a lot of fun hanging out, and we learned driving in Russia is crazy dangerous. Russian cars apparently do not have brakes or mirrors, and people have no fear of death. Seriously, check out the Russian dash cams on YouTube.

I got my check Saturday afternoon from my day of jury duty, so had an extra $16.36 this week, which I put in the bank today. But because I had extra money last week, there really wasn’t much we needed from the store this time. Here’s what I got today.

Thursday Day 544 – How To Lose Weight

You’re still getting my usual food diary in this post, but you’re also getting a rehash of a conversation I had with a friend I haven’t talked to in ages. She sent me a message today, and told me that she and her husband have started losing weight, that she is down about 25 pounds and he about 50. But she’s hit a mental roadblock and hasn’t been feeling motivated to exercise or eat like she feels she should. Now, I am not an expert and I’m still on my journey. But I’ve learned a few things over time. This is what I told her. My comments to her are in block quotes with further commentary below that.

I’ve found my mental state really makes a big difference. When I feel the whole “I can do this!” I find myself more motivated to stick to the plan and actually work at it. I think everyone will hit roadblocks along the way, from not wanting to exercise to wanting to just eat everything. I honestly think the best way to go is one day at a time, setting small goals along the way. If you say “I’m going to lose 50 pounds” its a huge, mind-boggling thing to do. If you say “I’m going to lose 5 pounds, I’m going to lose 10% of my starting body weight” it is more manageable, and far less intimidating, and I think that helps people stay inspired to continue.

I think small, attainable goals are at the heart of staying motivated. You’ll hear this from a lot of people, but maybe you don’t believe it. It is true. Every stinking word of it! I have set dozens of goals to meet along the way. You can see them here, and I’ve crossed them off as I’ve met them. Each one is a victory in itself, and meeting one makes me that much more excited to move forward to meet the next one. I’ve also learned avoiding time-based goals is wise for most people. If you miss the “deadline” you feel like you failed. Don’t make deadlines.

Ten Things Tuesday Day 542

tenthingsToday is Tuesday, and I want to try something new. In an effort to spruce up my posts, I want to theme some of the days of the week. I already have Weigh and Measure Sundays, and Weekly Wrap Up Saturdays, and as of this week, I’ve started Grocery Haul Mondays. I’ve always found it interesting to see what people are shopping for and I figure I can’t be the only one. It also gives you an opportunity to suggest alternatives to some of my regularly purchased items that may be healthier, cheaper, or just more interesting. I’d also like to start one for Tuesdays – Ten Things Tuesdays. What will Ten Things Tuesdays be? A day to share ten things I wan to achieve over the course of the week. So, here’s my ten things I want to accomplish this week.

Ten Things Tuesday #1
